マックス・リヒターのアルバム『While The Flood Rages』を、世界屈指のハイエンド・オーディオ・システムで全編体験できるリスニングパーティーの開催が決定した。今回、抽選で25名様を本イベントにご招待する。
 
本イベントは、アルバムの発売を記念して世界各地で展開される「WTFR Global Listening Events」の一環として開催される。東京、ロンドン、ソウル、ニューヨークなどで広がるリスニングバー文化に着想を得たこの企画では、各都市のハイファイ・オーディオを備えたバーやカフェを一夜限りの親密なリスニングルームへと変え、参加者がデバイスから離れ、音楽に没入する特別な時間を届ける。

会場となるのは、渋谷区にひっそりと佇む、住所非公開・紹介制の隠れ家リスニングバー「濤 TOH」。セレクトショップ〈NUBIAN〉代表のCOMBO氏がプロデュースし、トラフ建築設計事務所が空間設計を手がけた、音楽を深く味わうための特別な場所だ。普段は紹介がなければ訪れることのできないこの空間が、今回のイベントのために特別に開かれる。

薄暗い店内の中心には、ニューヨークのスピーカーブランド〈OJAS〉による特注のメインスピーカーとDJカウンターを配置。Garrard 301やTechnicsのSLシリーズなど、異なる個性を持つターンテーブルを備え、伝統的なオーディオの魅力と現代的な音響設計が共存している。荒々しいコンクリートの壁、暗がりにほのかに浮かび上がる石材のカウンター、ゆったりと音楽に身を委ねられるラウンジチェアが、親密で没入感のあるリスニング環境を生み出す。音の輪郭や響きの余韻、繊細な電子音からオーケストラの広がりまで、作品に込められた細部を全身で感じられる空間だ。

当日は、アルバム『While The Flood Rages』を全編再生。楽曲を断片的に聴くのではなく、全15曲・3幕で構成されたひとつながりの音の物語を、アルバム本来の流れのままじっくりと堪能できる貴重な機会となる。参加者にはウェルカムドリンクが振る舞われるほか、アルバムの世界観を表現した特別なグッズやZINEもプレゼントされる。

10月16日（金）発売のアルバム『While The Flood Rages』は、マーガレット・アトウッドの〈マッドアダム〉三部作に着想を得た、振付家ウェイン・マクレガーとのバレエ作品『MADDADDAM』から誕生した作品だ。海や機械の録音、ピアノ、オーケストラ、合唱、エレクトロニクスが溶け合い、環境危機やテクノロジーの加速に揺れる世界で、人と人とのつながり、変容、そして未来への希望を描き出している。

Win an Invitation to Max Richter’s Listening Party: 25 Guests to Experience His New Album in Full on a World-Class High-End Audio System

A special listening party has been announced, offering the chance to experience Max Richter’s new album, While The Flood Rages, in full through one of the world’s finest high-end audio systems. Twenty-five guests will be selected by lottery and invited to attend the event.

The event forms part of the WTFR Global Listening Events, a worldwide series celebrating the release of the album. Inspired by the growing listening-bar culture in cities including Tokyo, London, Seoul and New York, the project transforms bars and cafés equipped with hi-fi audio systems into intimate, one-night-only listening rooms, inviting guests to disconnect from their devices and immerse themselves fully in the music.

The Tokyo event will take place at TOH (濤), a discreet, invite-only listening bar hidden away in Shibuya, with its address kept private. Produced by COMBO, head of Japanese select shop NUBIAN, with interior design by TORAFU ARCHITECTS, TOH is a special space created for deep and focused listening. Ordinarily accessible by invitation only, the venue will open its doors especially for this event.

At the centre of the dimly lit interior is a bespoke main speaker system by New York-based audio brand OJAS, accompanied by a DJ booth. The venue is equipped with turntables of distinct sonic character, including the Garrard 301 and models from Technics’ SL series, bringing together the appeal of traditional audio equipment and contemporary acoustic design. Rough concrete walls, a stone counter glowing softly in the darkness and lounge chairs designed for relaxed listening create an intimate and immersive environment. From the contours and lingering resonance of each sound to the most delicate electronic details and the full sweep of the orchestra, the space allows listeners to experience every nuance of the album.

The event will feature a complete playback of While The Flood Rages. Rather than hearing the tracks in isolation, guests will have the rare opportunity to experience the album in full, in its original sequence: a continuous sonic narrative comprising 15 tracks across three acts. A welcome drink will be served, and each guest will also receive special merchandise and a ZINE inspired by the world of the album.

Applicants should pre-save While The Flood Rages on Spotify or pre-add it on Apple Music and submit their application by 8:00 PM on Wednesday, October 14. Twenty-five applicants will be selected by lottery and invited to attend the event. The full venue address will be provided only to attendees.

Academy Award-nominated composer Max Richter is one of the defining figures in contemporary music. Renowned for seamlessly blending traditional orchestration with modern electronic sound, his work spans film, ballet, fashion and many other creative fields. His catalogue has generated more than four billion streams worldwide.

Set for release on Friday, 16 October, While The Flood Rages grew out of MADDADDAM, Richter’s ballet collaboration with choreographer Wayne McGregor, inspired by Margaret Atwood’s MaddAddam trilogy. Recordings of the ocean and machinery merge with piano, orchestra, choir and electronics to explore human connection, transformation and hope for the future in a world shaken by ecological crisis and accelerating technological change.
