Public School 22 from Staten Island honors John Lennon on his Birthday with a Performance of “Imagine” at his Memorial Strawberry Fields in Central Park In NYC NYC VIBE Strolled through Central Park to celebrate John Lennon’s 78th birthday, as the Public School 22 Chorus (PS22) from Staten Island was invited by Yoko Ono Lennon to perform John Lennon’s iconic anthem of peace and unity “Imagine” at his living memorial, Strawberry Fields in NYC’s Central Park. The PS 22 Chorus is a globally renown elementary school chorus is composed of 60-70 fifth graders and directed by chorus director and music teacher Gregg Breinberg. PS22 has performed with the likes of Carrie Underwood, Rhianna, Fifth Harmony, Portugal the Man and many others, and has been featured on Oprah, Nightline, Good Morning America, MTV, Sesame Street and the 83rd Academy Awards where they closed the show with “Over The Rainbow.” They have performed for former President Obama, Beyonce and Lady Gaga. Strawberry Fields is a living memorial to the world-famous singer, songwriter and peace activist, John Lennon. During his career with the Beatles and in his solo work, Lennon's music gave hope and inspiration for world peace and his memory and mission lives on in Strawberry Fields. #johnlennon Strawberry Fields was officially dedicated on October 9, 1985, the 45th anniversary of Lennon's birth. Lennon's widow, Yoko Ono Lennon, worked with landscape architect Bruce Kelly and Central Park Conservancy to create a meditative spot. The mosaic was created by Italian craftsmen and given as a gift by the city of Naples. Based on a Greco-Roman design, it bears the word of one of Lennon's most famous songs: “Imagine.” A designated Quiet Zone in the Park, the memorial is shaded by stately American elms and lined with benches. In the warmer months, flowers bloom all around the area.
