1972年ロックンロールバンド「キャロル」のリーダーとしてデビュー。
1977年には、日本人ソロロックアーティストとして初の日本武道館公演、1978年には後楽園球場公演を行い、著書「成りあがり」で、一大「矢沢ブーム」を作りあげた。
2007年に前人未到の日本武道館通算100回公演を敢行。2012年にはデビュー40周年を迎え自身初となるオールタイムベスト「ALL TIME BEST ALBUM」をリリース、オリコンウィークリーチャート1位を獲得。
2014年には、バンドのメンバーをオーディションで選抜、バンド「Z’s」を結成。デビューライヴとなる全国ツアーや夏フェス、「TOKYO GIRLS COLLECTION ’14 A/W」などにも積極的に参加。大きな話題を呼ぶ。
2017年「TRAVELING BUS 2017」と称し、20ヶ所26公演のツアーを行い、日本武道館公演回数も142回として最多記録を更新した。2018年には69歳のアニバーサリーツアー「EIKICHI YAZAWA 69TH ANNIVERSARY TOUR 2018『STAY ROCK』」を敢行し、初の京セラドーム、3年ぶりの東京ドーム公演を行う。なお、東京ドームでコンサートを開催した国内アーティストとして史上最年長公演の記録を持つ。
2019年7年ぶりのNEWALBUM「いつか、その日が来る日まで．．．」をリリースしオリコンランキング最年長アルバムランキング1位を記録する。
そしてデビュー50周年を迎えた2022年、改装された国立競技場にて初の有観客ライヴを8月に行い大成功を飾る。さらに秋には全17公演ホール&アリーナ・ツアーが開催されたが、千秋楽の日本武道館通算150回公演が、自身の喉の不調で中止となる。
2023年、全18本の「Welcome to Rock’n’Roll」ツアーの日本武道館初日で、150回目のメモリアル公演を行い、日本武道館公演数最多記録をさらに更新した。
2025年、11月8、9日に東京ドームにて公演を2DAYS行う予定。チケットは即完売した。なお本公演は日本人アーティスト最年長公演記録となる。

In 1972, he debuted as the leader of the rock and roll band “Carol.
In 1977, he became the first Japanese solo rock artist to perform at the Nippon Budokan, and in 1978, he performed at Korakuen Stadium.
In 2007, Yazawa performed an unprecedented 100 times at Nippon Budokan, and in 2012, celebrating the 40th anniversary of his debut, he released his first all-time best album “ALL TIME BEST ALBUM,” which reached No. 1 on the Oricon Weekly Chart.
In 2014, the band members were selected by audition and formed the band “Z’s”. They actively participated in their debut live national tour, summer festivals, and “TOKYO GIRLS COLLECTION ’14 A/W”. They attracted a great deal of attention.
In 2017, under the title of “TRAVELING BUS 2017,” they toured 26 shows in 20 locations, and performed 142 times at Nippon Budokan, breaking the record for the most number of performances. 2018 will mark their 69th anniversary tour, “EIKICHI YAZAWA 69TH ANNIVERSARY TOUR 2018 『STAY ROCK』. STAY ROCK” tour, which will take him to Kyocera Dome for the first time and Tokyo Dome for the first time in three years. YAZAWA holds the record as the oldest Japanese artist ever to hold a concert at Tokyo Dome.
In 2019, he will release his first new album in 7 years, “Someday, Until That Day Comes…. and became the oldest album ranking No.1 in Oricon Ranking.
In 2022, the 50th anniversary of his debut, he will perform his first live show at the renovated National Stadium in August, which will be a great success. In the fall, a 17-show hall and arena tour was held, but the 150th concert at Nippon Budokan, the final leg of the tour, was cancelled due to a throat problem.
In 2023, the first day of the 18-performance “Welcome to Rock’n’Roll” tour at Nippon Budokan marked the 150th memorial performance, further breaking the record for the most number of Nippon Budokan performances.
In 2025, the band is scheduled to perform at Tokyo Dome on November 8 and 9 for 2 DAYS. Tickets sold out immediately. This performance will make him the oldest Japanese artist to perform at the Budokan.
