I feel that children, while possessing the endless potential within them, have an inherent impossibility as well as the uncertainty of not yet being fully formed people. The children in the picture are something other than human, as they are anyone and are also a reflection of myself. In an era when efficiency and convenience are prioritized, I have had a feeling of hardship from my conscience. I feel that it is because it is such an era that it is worth paying attention to the changes of each and every moment, creating pictures over time, that it is worthwhile to take finely detailed and careful action. I will continue to ask questions through that action.

ABOUT MUSIC AND ART

Music overcomes time and distance to take me to “somewhere that isn’t here.” I used to love being lightly brushed by cool wind and staring out at mountains tinted red by the sun through the long, small window in my kitchen. It has the lightest scent of loneliness. Now surrounding my house are all new houses, and that window doesn’t even exist anymore. But when I hear that music, I can even now see that scenery and smell that fragrance, remembering it even as though it were here before me.

Mika Shinagawa PLAYLIST

PROFILEBorn in Kumamoto Prefecture in 1988.
